Do you love to walk dogs? Does it sound like fun to play with cats and kittens? Would you like to foster dogs or puppies, cats or kittens who need an interim home between the shelter and their forever home? All of these opportunities (and more) are available at the Humane Society.
Thank You for Considering Volunteering at OPHS
What would I do as a volunteer?
Volunteers assist staff in almost every area of the shelter. They clean, feed, walk and help socialize animals. They also help run special events and fundraisers.
How do I become a volunteer?
Although you can volunteer in any area, most people gravitate toward helping with dogs, or cats, typically one or the other. Depending upon your preference, download and read the Dog or Cat Volunteer Manual below. Complete the application and either email it to firstname.lastname@example.org or bring it into the office at 1743 Old Olympic Highway, Port Angeles. OPHS will arrange a discussion with your regarding how you wish to help. We will then schedule an orientation/training session for you at the shelter.
My child is under 16 years old but really wants to help – is there anything they can do?
Yes! Children between the ages of 12 and 15 are welcome to volunteer as long as they are with a parent or legal guardian.
I have court-ordered community service to complete – can I do it at OPHS?
Yes, you may complete your community service hours at the shelter. To fulfill community service hours, please call us at (360) 457-8206. Community service workers assist with laundry, dishes, cleaning and walk dogs.
If you are interested in fostering animals, you must complete both the Volunteer and Foster Applications.
